Matthew Shade is January’s teacher of the month. Although Shade has been teaching for three years, this is his first year teaching at Sterling High School. Shade teaches many science classes, including earth science classes. He is originally from Wray, Colorado. According to Shade, his number one reason for wanting to become a teacher is because he enjoys getting to work with kids.
In his free time, outside of school, Shade likes to travel. His favorite food is crab. Shade’s favorite holiday is Christmas because of the giving and receiving of presents and all of the time he gets to spend with his family. One fun fact that many students may not know about Shade is that he is an Eagle Scout.
Another one of Shade’s hobbies is playing videogames. So, it is only natural that Shade is also the advisor for SHS’s Game Club. Shade says that his best experience so far as a teacher has been setting up Game Club. When asked what his reasoning was for wanting to be involved with Game Club, Shade said, “I want to be able to interact with students on a more individual level.”
