On Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, 54 members of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club from Sterling High School competed in over 25 different events. The members of the FBLA club prepared for this day by attending weekly work nights and practicing speeches and presentations for months. Their hard work paid off with 44 members of the Sterling chapter qualifying in at least one event and five qualifying in two events for the State Leadership Conference. The District Leadership Conference, hosted by the Wray chapter of FBLA at Northeastern Junior College, started at 8:00 a.m. and wrapped up at 1:00 p.m. Districts offered a variety of events for students to excel in such as pre-judged projects, objective tests, live presentations, and impromptu speeches; additionally, they covered topics ranging from business management situations to the medical field to international issues. The Sterling chapter represented itself well with 23 members placing first, 14 placing second, eight placing third, and 18 placing in the top 10 in their respective events. The Sterling chapter of FBLA is now focused on the State Leadership Conference which is held in Vail, Colorado on April 14, 15, and 16.
